What We Review

  • Eligible works must have at least 10 chapters published and publicly available on a web fiction platform (e.g., Royal Road, Scribble Hub, personal blog, etc.).
  • We do not review fan fiction—original fiction only.
  • We do not review smut or adult content that primarily exists for erotic gratification.
  • If your story is shorter than 10 chapters, we encourage you to come back once it’s grown. We’re not going anywhere.

Review Types

We offer three main types of reviews, each serving a unique purpose for both readers and authors:

1. First Impressions (Default)

Based on reading up to 25 chapters
~500–1000 words

This is where most reviews begin. A First Impressions piece delivers immediate value—it’s not a compromise, it’s a spotlight. We analyse tone, pacing, premise, voice, and potential based on your opening arc. It’s designed to highlight what you’re doing right, what might hold you back, and who your story is for.

Think of it as a powerful elevator pitch—to readers and to yourself.

2. Full Verse Review

When we read 30–60+ chapters
Length: ~1200–2500 words

These are deep dives. We dissect arc structure, character evolution, long-form voice, and thematic ambition. But let’s be clear:

A Full Verse Review isn’t about whether a story is “good enough.”
It’s about context—the time we have, the readership a story has gathered, and whether the author has shown staying power and consistency over time. A Full Verse demands preparation, rereads, and time to reflect. That’s a big ask.

So, these reviews will be rare.
There might not be even one in a given month.
When they happen, it’s because something about the story—or the story’s place in the broader ecosystem—justifies that level of investment.

We also have a commitment to maintaining the voice and values of Bardic Planet. These reviews represent us. So we write them slowly, and we write them right.

3. Bardic Feature

For sustained excellence
2500+ words

The rarest, and most prestigious. Bardic Features are written for stories that demonstrate sustained excellence. We look at legacy potential, cultural resonance, literary craft, and long-term execution. These aren’t just reviews—they’re essays about why this story matters.

Review Queue & Timing

  • We receive many submissions and also publish a wide variety of content—reviews, essays, memes, features, and more.
  • As such, there may be a wait of several weeks to months before your story is reviewed.
  • But rest assured: we respond to every email, and if you’re given a slot, your review will be published in that week—or earlier, if we can fit you into a bonus slot.

How to Submit

Email us at [email protected] with the following:

  • Story Title
  • Author Name
  • Link to Read (Royal Road, Scribble Hub, etc.)
  • Chapter Count
  • A 1–2 sentence elevator pitch (optional but appreciated)

Feel free to mention if you’re hoping for a Full Verse or Bardic Feature. We’ll consider it, but can’t promise. Reviews are ultimately editorial decisions, based on what serves both readers and your story best.

A Final Word

We know how much effort goes into every chapter, every line. Submitting your work is no small thing. Whether we write 800 words or 2,800 about your story, please know this:

We value every submission.
We treat your work with honesty and respect.
And we believe good fiction deserves to be seen.

Thank you for being part of Bardic Planet.

Let’s build something legendary.
